Stylish? Me?

I haven't been able to make it to the blogworld much this week because of a virus. Not me, the computer. Ugh.

Are you having a good week? Mine has been good so far, despite the computer issues.

In happier news, I received the Stylish Blogger Award from the other fabulous Jennifer over at Peas and Crayons. Definitely check out her blog, because this lovely girl has been changing my life one blog post at a time!

With this award, I'm supposed to list seven things about myself:

1. I am an adoring fan of McDonalds french fries.
2. If you force me to listen to country music, I will start to like it.
3. I have seen almost every single season of The Bachelor and The Bachelorette.
4. I only have two dresses left that fit me, both which I save for job interviews.
5. I walk for an hour every single day.
6. Not a day goes by where I don't fervently wish I had a new laptop and a new car.
7. I hate snow with a passion, I don't care how pretty it can be.

Also, my sweet friend Sierra over at Ocean Dreams made this beautiful button for me.

I know some bloggers prefer buttons over regular links, so feel free to use it! And check out her blog too, because it will seriously brighten your day.

Have a great rest of the week! XOXO

Golden Globe Gowns

Like millions of other people, I was glued to the television screen during the Golden Globes. My head was spinning during the red carpet special because of all the fabulous gowns. I seriously think this may have been the best-dressed Golden Globes red carpet in history. There was barely a "what was she thinking?!" in sight.

Here are my favorite looks:

Jennifer Lawrence gave a jaw-dropping performance in the critically acclaimed film, "Winter's Bone". Her fashion sense doesn't disappoint either. She looked stunning in this black and gray Louis Vuitton gown.

I'm a big fan of huge delicious puffy gowns. This midnight princess Marchesa gown, worn by Olivia Wilde, took my breath away.

Mad Men actress Elisabeth Moss kept it classy with this elegant yet sexy emerald green Donna Karan gown.

Glee Queen Lea Michele waltzed down the red carpet in what looked like Barbie's dream dress. But you know what? I kind of fell in love with the Oscar de la Renta gown. It was fun and glamorous.

My favorite actress Anne Hathaway didn't disappoint in a stunning metallic bronze Armani Privé number.

Catherine Zeta-Jones looked like a queen in this flowing green Monique Lhullier gown.

Good ol' Angie mesmerized onlookers in this green Versace gown. With her exaggerated facial features, I understand that simplicity is her best friend when it comes to red carpet fashion. But, I really miss the pre-Brad Angelina who used to flaunt low-cut sparkly dresses and laugh delightfully on the red carpet. This whole ice queen fembot thing she has going on now scares the crap out of me...

Natalie Portman proves pregnancy doesn't have to get in the way of being the best dressed woman on the red carpet. This adorably unique Victor and Rolf gown was my favorite look of the night.

...so, who were your favorites?

Breakfast on Pluto

This is Cillian Murphy.

This is Cillian Murphy in the best role of his acting career.

I saw this film yesterday afternoon with my mom. We both thought it was incredible.

"Breakfast on Pluto" focuses on a starry-eyed transgender orphan, Patrick "Kitten" Braden, who goes on a journey to find her biological mother during the 1970s. Starting out in her hometown in Northern Ireland, the glam queen encounters one wacky adventure after another on her way to London, where her beautiful mother is rumored to live.

Set amidst political strife, this 2005 dramedy is not just a tale of self-discovery, but a portrait of sexuality. The world is not perfect. Humans are not cookie-cutter. Viewers of this film are forced to see the complexities of sexual identity.

Cillian's delicate performance as the heartbreakingly naive Kitten is a perfect demonstration of reality. Here is a man, who is all woman, and yet misunderstood by people who have no right to judge.

The impeccable acting in this film is not the only reason I adored it. Kitten is a fabulous character, often reminding me of myself.

Early on in the film, she falls innocently in love with the scruffy lead singer of a rock band.

She then randomly becomes a magician's assistant, just to be fabulous.

In self-defense, she does what any girl would do and nails her attacker square in the eyes with a spray of Chanel No. 5.

Best quote of the film? When Kitten purrs to a police officer, as she's being held in his arms, "If I wasn't a transvestite terrorist, would you marry me?"

(If you want to know the context of that quote, see the film. My lips are sealed!)

I'm going to warn you, the film is a tad slow in the beginning, but if you appreciate a good film, it won't make any difference to you.

And don't worry about any graphic content. While Kitten is very flirtatious and sexual, she doesn't so much as even kiss another character on screen. I was surprised.

Honestly, I feel Cillian should have gotten an Oscar for his performance, but he wasn't even nominated. He did win the 2007 IFTA award for best actor, however, and he was nominated for a Golden Globe for the film as well.

Hopefully, it is a film that will help educate people on transgender life and make our world a little more understanding.

After all, it's easy to be prejudiced when you're kept in the dark.

Cupcakes & Makeovers

After having a little too much happy juice the other night, Kerrie and I decided to be productive. We made fluffy pink cupcakes and lathered them with pink and cherry frosting.

Kerrie is a great decorator.

Then, she decided to give me a makeover!

Of course, I spent lots of time snuggling with Babs. I was so thrilled Kerrie brought her over!

It was a fun night. Things ended a little crazy, but that's typical for us.

Are you having a good week?

She Sells Sea Shells by the Sea Shore

My parents dragged me to the dinosaur exhibit at our local science museum over the weekend.

It was cute and informative, but the most interesting aspect was the mention of one woman in particular: Mary Anning.

I was so mesmerized, I decided to share with you a little history lesson on a very fabulous woman. She wasn't a fashionista. She wasn't royalty. She wasn't even that attractive. She was just a woman who was years before her time.

Mary Anning was the "the greatest fossilist the world ever knew."

Before your eyes glaze over and you skim over this post, humor me and read on.

Born into wretched poverty in 1799, Mary didn't stand a chance. Her life was already mapped out to be insignificant, until a discovery as a child changed her life forever.

When she was 12, Mary and her brother were climbing the rocky cliffs by their home, Lyme Regis, in England, when they came across the complete skeleton of an Icthyosaur. Mary pieced the entire dinosaur skeleton together by herself and became known as one of the world's most famous palaeontologists.

Throughout her teens, Mary made many more discoveries along the coast of her home. She would go on to find the first two Plesiosaur skeletons ever found, the first Pterosaur skeleton, and very important fish fossils.

Most of her fossils were sold to institutions and private collectors, and although it brought in funds, it wasn't the astronomical number you would think. Back then, dinosaur fossils were still relatively new. You couldn't find anyone who was willing to fork over millions of dollars for a T-Rex skeleton. Despite her world-wide fame, her family was still desperately poor and relied on charity to get by.

Also, her accomplishments were sullied by the male British elite. As a working class woman, Mary was not allowed to be a member of the Geological Society of London. Although she knew more about fossils than any other scientist at the time, her findings were always published by male geologists who often did not give her credit. She grew resentful because of this treatment.

Her unhappiness could be found in a letter: "The world has used me so unkindly, I fear it has made me suspicious of everyone."

It wasn't until she was diagnosed with breast cancer that she finally started getting the recognition she deserved.

She received an annuity from the British Association for the Advancement of Science in 1838. The Geological Society of London collected a stipend for her and she was named the first Honorary Member of the new Dorset County Museum, one year before her death from breast cancer at age 47. Her obituary was published in the Quarterly Journal of the Geological Society--an organization that would not admit women until 1904.

Her legend lives on not only in scientific journals and history books, but also in our culture.

The tongue twister, "She sells sea shells by the seashore," was written about Mary.

Not bad for a penniless girl who liked to play in the dirt.

Let that be your inspiration.

Kerrie is a mommy!

I just want to thank everyone again for the birthday wishes! I'm sorry I haven't been around lately. I was severely sick for almost a week. I'm just now catching up on everything I missed out on, such as applying for jobs and running errands. Eep!

Despite my illness and hectic schedule, it has been a great week so far.

Kerrie adopted a purebred miniature poodle. She named her Babette. (Babs for short.)

Babs is an absolute doll and seriously the cutest puppy I have ever seen in my life. She is also extremely well-behaved.

Babs comes from a long line of award-winning show dogs. But she's not a snob at all. It's funny, but even though she's just a baby, you can already see her personality shine. Babs is very dainty and lady-like. She is not messy and she's strangely polite for a dog. But she has her moments of mischief, such as trying to devour Kerrie's Jimmy Choo heels or intimidating dogs twice her size at the park. She's fabulous. In other words, she takes after her mother.

This week, Kerrie and I took Babs to the park for a walk and photo shoot.

It was also a chance for me to show off my new 1960s coat I recently bought from a vintage boutique.

It was a lovely day.

I hope you are all having a wonderful week! Is 2011 treating you right so far?

My birthday celebration!

Kerrie gave me a 12-hour birthday party last week.

It started out with bagels, fresh fruit, mimosas, and Chanel makeup.

We then ended up in the woods, where we drank champagne and mocked the geese.

Later that night, we put on our new party dresses and hit the town. (I snuck a black tutu under mine, so I could pretend it was Betsey Johnson...it was really Forever 21).

Somewhere around 3 a.m. we finally got around to the pink champagne cake.

It was fabulous.
