Bright Star

Thank you to everyone who left me such a sweet message on my blog this week. It is really comforting to know I have such great friends. :) Your words definitely lifted my spirits.

I have a couple fun things planned for this weekend, so I hope they will take my mind off my troubles...

Last night Rian took me to see "Bright Star," a film about his favorite poet, John Keats. He thought it would be good for me to see a movie that was not a chick flick.

Ironically, the film ended up being something I would have dragged Rian to see anyway. The story focuses on the tortured romance between Keats and his lover, Fanny Brawne, played by Ben Whishaw and Abbie Cornish, respectively.

I was intrigued with this movie because of the fashion. Fanny is a self-proclaimed fashion lover who designs and sews all her own dresses.

In a way, she kind of reminded me of myself when I first met Rian. She admitted to Keats that she loved fashion but also feigned an interest in learning poetry, to get his attention. Rian is a published poet and when we first met four years ago, I did the exact same thing.

The film also reminded me a lot of my early romance with Rian because he used to write me love poems as well or incorporate me into his other work. Unfortunately he doesn't do that anymore because he has been using all his energy to study for graduate school instead of writing poetry these days...

The costumes in the film were gorgeous. The acting was also very real, which I appreciated. Overall, it was a very enjoyable and lovely film. (Although if you do see it, I recommend tissues because it is a total cry fest).

What I found interesting was seeing photos of the actors in real life. They look so different!

I thought Abbie Cornish was amazing in this film and I look forward to seeing more of her work.

What great movies have you seen lately?

  1. I couldn't decide whether to see this movie, but the screenshots look so pretty, I'm going to have to.
Also, I'm surprised Rian didn't realize it was a total chick flick from the trailer!

  27. I have seen all of 0 great moves recently. The last film I saw in the theaters was Transformers 2 - I was dragged to it as a "work" outing, and ended up leaving after an hour; I totally couldn't get into it. On a brighter note, I did watch Marie Antoinette a couple of weeks ago, which I am completely smitten with!

Ooh, I so want to see Bright Star. I have heard such wonderful things about it; but this post has made me want to see it even more. It sounds divine! :)

  30. Oh what a great movie this looks like!! I love the costumes. Keats..hmm I don't think I ever read any of his stuff but he's always an answer on Jeporady hehehe. Oh I love your comments you always make me smile! I hope this weekend got your mind off of things!!

I'm probably the only person who didn't see this movie but I saw August Rush over the weekend. It's an absolutely sweet movie about music, love, and a boy searching for his parents who don't even know they had a kid! (long story) but it's a great movie I recommend it dear if you haven't seen it!
