Guest Post: Water Marbling Nail Polish Technique

To make sure you have a fabulous weekend, I am leaving you with an awesome guest blogger, Amber. Not only is she beautiful, stylish, and clever, but Amber also happens to be an amazing friend. Her fashion blog, Amber's Mouthwash, has been one of my favorite reads for a very long time. Enjoy her guest post and then go check out her blog!

For Jennifer Fabulous' blog, I wanted to do something just as unique and fabulous as she is. I decided what could be better than something that is never the same twice? As a self professed nail polish fiend, I want to show you one of my favorite polish techniques: The Water-marbling Technique. It's as beautiful as it is unique and bound to attract compliments.

For those of you who are hearing about this technique for the first time, you are in for treat! While it can be a bit of a clean up, the pay off it well worth it - you won't be able to stop admiring your artwork. Even those who are artistically inclined will be masters. I have been stopped in malls by complete strangers who want to know where I got my nails done. If you are seeking for ways to break up your manicure routine, this is the perfect solution. Enjoy and have fun!

TIPS:
*While dark and bright colors work best, a solid white creates some amazing effects.
*The matte polish I used turned out great - too bad I put a top coat on to seal everything else....
* If you don't want to spend about 20 minutes cleaning up around your nails, do this before you plan on taking a shower. The steam will lift the excess polish right off.
*Sometimes waiting until the polish film dries and then dipping your nail makes for really cool "lightening streaks" across the nail. Very cool.

Remember, there is no "right" way to do this! Have fun with it!

*Fun Fact* the yellow polish pictured in the film is now: in my carpet, on my November Vogue, Bridal planning book, bank receipt and headband. Too bad I didn't catch it on camera.

And that's it! Let me know what you think - I hope you try it too! I would love to see your results!!

Thank you for allowing me to guest write on your blog Jennifer! Such a cool idea!

  12. I kicked around the idea of being a manicurist for a while, but I'm not gay or Asian. It turns out, it's against the law.

    Nice video.

It's true, my mood is really conected with scenery! I always feel much better in the center of Warsaw, or at the sea or other country then in my borough. Exactly as you said, I feel so inspired!

  33. I like the sentence :) I hope it's true in my case.
I've heard about Missouri a little. I was in secondary school with extended english, and I had to learn names of every state, and a few words about it. I was really intrested in Arizona and Phoenix, grand canyon and so on... How is it in Missouri? What's your favourite state or city in usa? i believe it's very intresting country.

    I'm following you too :).

  35. I have only recently somewhat mastered the art and technique that goes into coloring within the lines to put it simply, when it comes to my nails. Which makes me super envious when I see nail art done like this. This is beyond my caliber but still, completely gorgeous to not try.

  36. It's similarly as here in Poland: a few bigger cities, but mostly small towns and farms. It's exactly as you said: kinda beautiful, but also boring. I prefer skyscrapers, big cities. I live in Warsaw, so in the biggest city in Poland, but you can't compare it to for example NYC.

Like I wrote in my post, Warsaw has a few beautiful places, but mostly there are blocks of flats, and for me they're just ugly.
Wow NYC, and LA... miami... I'm so jealous. I've never been to usa. The flights are quite expensive, and dollars are much more expensive then polish currency. It's my dream to go there. I think I'll try to find a job for holidays, and maybe I'll go to US for two years, when I'll be already 18.
I think I would love US too :)
Have you ever been to Arizona? I'm so intrested in this state.

How is it in Poland... First of all, we have a great history. We were under german, austrian and russian occupacion for 123 years. When we were free again, there was the second world war, and it was a nightmare. After that was communism. So we are free, democracy country for over 20 years, which is not much. So it is, how it is. We have just one line of underground (or subway, what's the difference?) we have bad politics and economy. People here don't earn much. Most of young people emigrate. I'm going to emigrate too. There's no many perspective, actually. I don't want to sound like Poland is the worst place on the world, because it's not so bad, actually i think everywhere is the same. I wouldn't stay here anyway, I wasn't born to sit just in one place to the rest of my life. But we have a few nice places, I'll try to show them on my blog. :)

  54. I've done some water marbeling designs myself (you can see pictures of them on my blog and on my nail art website here: http://www.wix.com/missoh/nailsbymissoh), I love the technique since it looks like there's no way you can do this yourself, but there is :). It takes a while, but when finished, you have the artiest of nails!

Thx for your weet comment on my latest post, you can follow if you like ;)
