Why do you come here?

I had planned to do an entire post about my adventures in Portland.

Crazy shit happened. It was depressingly hilarious.

But I'm back in the life of the living dead.

I crashed into my pool of unhappiness last night. I'm simply not in the mood to entertain you with my wit. And I'm not going to bore you with my problems, because I don't want to be an emotional slut.

Besides, most of you know the challenges I'm facing right now, anyway.

So I'm going to spend today gathering my thoughts and I'll try to capture my negative emotions into a bottle. Perhaps like lightning bugs they will eventually die overnight. (They won't, but it was a nice sentiment, right?).

In the meantime, please allow my future husband, Morrissey, to feed your mind with love.

  4. Have we talked about Holy Basil? Tea or capsule form. It's a really good natural way to fight the blues, it takes a few weeks to kick in, but worth it.

And unlike St. John's Wort, it doesn't mess with birth control or other medications...

    Chin up, mama!

  6. Ms. Fabulous thank you so much for the kind comment you left on my blog. I'm not a pro, do it to keep myself occupied.

BTW, how can Morrissey seriously be your future husband? Isn't he celibate and chaste for life? Plus you’ll have to never eat red meat again.

  7. Just know that by saying "because I don't want to be an emotional slut", you did entertain me with your wit.

  9. Your post asks why we come here. For me the answers are simple but many.

I know what you write sometimes is borne from depression. I hate to see you feeling this way, I wish I could take it away from you more than you'll ever know. But your words have never put me off, scared me away or made me want to stop reading. They'll never make me want to stop knowing you, no matter how intense you get, because they're honest.

This is what first drew me to you Jen. Right now you're enveloped in shadow but it won't win because you have this beautiful light about you. I could see it from the first time we met.

Why do I come here? I enjoy never knowing what you'll post from day to day. You're an outstanding writer, and no I'm not saying this just to be kind. Your journalism background shows through and I love the research you put into some of your posts.

From the point of view as a friend though, words don't come as easily. It's so hard to put down how I feel about you and what our friendship means to me without going on forever. I love you and I thank God you're in my life.

These clouds won't hang over you forever Jen. But while they do I'll do anything I can to keep some of that rain off you.

    Always and forever,
    Barry

  15. First, thanks for your awesome comment about our society's distorted opinion of beauty.

I know what you mean about being depressed. I've been feeling kind of crappy lately too. But comfort yourself with the knowledge that you can still write beautifully, and come up with ingenious analogies about lightning bugs! Even more important, you're much smarter than thousands of stupid bloggers out there who care about nothing and write boring posts. You know what makes a person REAL. http://thearcenciel.blogspot.com/

  16. When you have friends like us who are (virtually) real, things can't be that bad, right?? Hope things turn around -they always do. Humans are hardwired to be optimistic!!
