My Eight Things

A lot of you have been asking how I am lately and honestly, I have been avoiding the question because things still aren't looking up and I hate to complain.

My laptop is still broke, I am sick AGAIN, and I am no closer to having a job now than I was a few months ago.

That being said, there are a couple happy things to report. My boyfriend recently found out that a surgery he desperately needs, but cannot afford, may be paid for by a non-profit organization in the area, which specializes in helping US residents without health insurance. This is a huge deal, so it has made him quite happy and therefore, me happy.

Also, last night I took a sewing class at a fabric shop and finally learned how to sew!

I'm not going to lie. It was very difficult and for a majority of the time, I did not know what I was doing. My 80-year-old teacher, however, kept insisting I was doing "marvelous." I'm not sure if she was just humoring me or if I was accidentally doing everything correctly.

Somehow, I ended up making this pillowcase. The teacher was so thrilled, she displayed it for the rest of the class as an example. Yay!

A couple days ago, the adorable Rachel over at The Redhead Fashionista tagged all her readers to do an Eight Things Tag, should they so desire.

Old school 90210 or new....I watch old school reruns almost daily...trying to recapture my youth. Ah ha ha. I'm sorry things are still a struggle. I'm praying they turn around soon!

Did you take a class on the Plaza at that little fabric store? I love that place.

If you're free today, you should go down to Good JuJu in the West Bottoms. There is a new antique store behind them (that might not be open today) and they mentioned a flea market type store nearby that I've never seen before. Also, there is a good vintage clothing store next door- it's a warehouse where they sell (for cheap) everything they don't want for the fancy branch of their store.

Sorry things aren't getting better....but just think when you use your pillow case and sleep at night remember how sometimes things seem impossible and no matter what we do it's not going to work and in the end is something beautiful

Hi girl,

I'm happy for your bf. Hope gets a safe surgery. Congrats for the pillow. I had sewing lessons way back in high school but i never learned to sew. I'm alaways petrified with the quick movement of needles. Therefore, when we had to submit a polo shirt as our final exam test, i fake my sewing machine. I used hand needled and sewed my polo shirt with my needle and hands, but too carefully so that it looks like sewed by a machine, haha!

anyway, I'm happy to know everythings getting better, that's how it sounds to me ;) take care.

Oh, I'm so sorry to hear that your laptop is broke again, and that you're sick. A double-whammy of bad luck. On the bright side, your pillowcase is adorable; and congratulations for being the class example! Yayay!!

What kind of surgery is Rian getting? And ohmigosh I want that owl laptop - so cute!! :)

OneCraftyFox said...

Congrats on the sewing!! You will have so much fun with it :) I just posted new pics of new clothes I sewed on my blog today.

God, that pillowcase looks just like the one I saw at 'Pillowcases R Us'. Heh heh. (Nice work).

Eight things I like about Jen Fab:

1)you're very honest
2)you're impossibly cute
3)you have great fashion sense
4)you're a gifted writer. Seriously!
5)you're extremely loyal to Rian and others
6)you let yourself be vulnerable
7)we're practically related. You're of Indian background, my brother is marrying a woman who is Indian. OMFG what are the chances huh?! It's that six degrees of separation kinda deal. Granted she's West Indian, where you're East. Okay, so maybe it's more like six-hundred degrees of separation. But you get the idea.
8)you're a great friend, tremendously encouraging

Love you Jen.
xx
