Fashion Show (Part One)

This past weekend, I attended the West 18th Street Fashion Show with Kerrie and Meredith.

The show featured the work of local fashion designers, some still in school, others with their own boutiques and collections.

It was a fun!

Here were some pieces that stuck out to me.

Natalia Meyer

My terrible photo does not do this gown justice. The shimmering silk gray material flowed perfectly with the model's pearl necklaces. It was very glamorous.

This shiny material rippled like water. I wanted to reach out and touch it.

I could easily see this dress floating on a red carpet somewhere, draping a Hollywood star.

Maegan Stracy

So. Freaking. Adorable.

I loved this designer's use of colors.

Birdies

I was really struck by the swimsuit on the left.

The men's bathing suits were just as fabulous.

Peggy Noland

An outfit made out of trash.

Like something out of a bad dream.

This outfit was made out of nightmares. Or so I imagine.

Overall, the show was fabulous. Thousands of people showed up, so my friends and I were lucky to find good standing positions.

I'm sorry the photos are not very good. My camera was not designed to capture people walking at high speeds down a runway, unfortunately.

I highly suggest you all get to know the local designers in your city. There is so much talent, just waiting to be discovered right under your nose.

You never know--the next Alexander McQueen could have a boutique two blocks away from you!

Thanks for the enthusiasm!! I love the outfit too!

I actually scored the tulle skirt at Boomerang's in Westport- are you familiar? It's pretty easy to look up on Google. They only have one size and it's a bit tight on me, so I had to hike it up a bit closer to my natural waist. Boomerangs is a great place to score vintage and costumes.

It's really hard to get good pictures from a runway (and this one looks like it was dimly lit!) Sometimes the event publishes pictures and we usually steal those since they are much better than ours :P

Looks like some really inventive designers out there!

Wow the fashion show that you went to looks like so much fun. I don't think I have ever actually been to a fashion show before but I would love to. There are some fabulous designs and a lot of variety. Also I saw your last post and it reminds me of myself, there are a lot of purchases that I really regret but I am trying to save more now except when I look back sometimes I always wonder what must I have been thinking at the time. Anyway, sorry for my lack of comments lately but I am back now. No more exams, so exciting! Thanks for your support this year, so happy it is finally all over.

I love that second dress. It looks very Victorian. These are some good pictures for them not to be professionally done though. I'm glad you had a good time. :)
