Dealing with aliens (and other oddities)

Wow. I seriously need to print out all your comments from my last post and tape them on the walls above my laptop. I had no idea my fellow bloggers could motivate me and inspire me so deeply. I am extremely grateful for your advice and sincere wishes. Thank you so much, sweet friends! Hopefully you will be hearing more about my progress soon!

I think my writer's block has a lot to do with a few things happening in my life recently. Not just being depressed about my unemployment, but also my empty bank account, my dying 10-year-old laptop, and other crap. Other crap being people around me.

Have you ever felt like everyone around you is living in another world? Not, like, another world all together and you're the outsider, but where each person is in their own separate crazy world and you're in the real one.

For example, I have two friends right now who are driving me nuts.

One is a disillusioned alcoholic who believes things which aren't true. Seriously. He will sit there and talk about how Chicago is always warmer than Dallas in the winter, and argue with anyone who tries to contradict him. He doesn't do it to be an asshole. He is just that ignorant. He really has no clue. And now he hasn't spoken to me since I e-mailed him a map of the United States and the link to the Wikipedia page for "weather."

My other friend is a fragile flower who wilts at the slightest infliction. She is super touchy. You cannot say anything around this girl without her taking it personally. I could casually mention that I'm craving pizza and she would retort "you know I got sick from pizza six months ago. Why the fuck are you talking about pizza? That is so rude. Are you going to apologize?" Ummmm...

And then there are strangers. Strangers who don't say thank you when I let them cut in line at the grocery store with one item. Strangers who slam into me while walking at the mall and then glare at me, like I did something wrong by being there. Strangers who stare at me blankly when I ask if anyone can spare ONE PENNY so I don't have to charge my lunch at Chipotle. Or perhaps the Chipotle cashier who won't let the penny slide.

I'm so sorry for bitching. I just needed to get all that off my chest. It's frustrating dealing with these people.

To make it up to you, I am sharing this short video I recently discovered. If you want something to brighten your day, this will do the trick. It works for me every time.

Enjoy!

You don't bitch at all, dear :-)
I ca absolutely relate as I often feel the same way, too. People are so impolite & mak eme always wonder ho on earth they got like that?! Being polite isn't all that hard, right? When somebody annoys me big time, I often get very polite, sweet & kind - to make them feel ashamed. Sometimes it works & people will blush & I know they realize that they behaved like retards *lol*
On to friends: So funny you send him the map & link *g* He should take it like a man & laugh about it, too. But I guess he's lacking the self-irony factor...

The good thing about strangers is that you'll never have to see them again, and can always feel bad for their small, wilted hearts. ;)

Walk in your power, mama!

lol - that video totally had me cracking up in my office.

I was in "The Pirates of Penzance" in a high school musical, and that scene was always one of my favorite scenes.

Ah strangers can be the worst! I try to justify that they are having a bad day or something, but it's hard not to take it personally when people give you nasty glares and are rude to you for no apparent reason. Sorry you're having a rough time, I am also unemployed and I feel extra touchy about everything lately!

Don't apologize for expressing your opinion...it seems like your friends express everything to you. Maybe you just need a break from them.

And in terms of being polite, I have struggled with it for so long. Some people are incredibly inconsiderate and rude. You can't control that. Just keep being polite. It's the best revenge ; )

Best,

My dear girl, your complaints are certainly justified. There's just no excuse for strangers being rude. Like it's so hard to say "excuse me."

Um...ok. Yes. I'm on that page. Those "friends" I've really taken a step back from. I have enough going on in my life that I don't need to deal with their bullshit too. There is a point where its ok to be a bitch and tell them what's up.

Speaking of aliens...ha ha ha. I love the photos you used in your post today, very inspiring. You have a 10 yr old laptop! That's impressive mine never lasted that long. Hang in there, you'll land a dream job and things will work out.I can't believe no one snagged you up already, you were born to do this writing thing :) I'm sorry to hear the frustration your feeling with some friends, try to take a break from them. um, your friends are crazy! i have a touch of crazy myself! the other day in the car i let somebody in because i was feeling NICE, and he didn't give me a wave or a thank you or anything, so i screamed out the window F*CK YOU, YOU C#NT! gah! infuriating! traffic drives me bonkers. and today a CRANE was moving stuff during rush hour, which clogged traffic for 20 minutes, and i flipped off all of the crane dudes when i finally got to drive past them. MURDER! why can't they do this stuff after hours?! or at MIDNIGHT?!?!? GAH!

ok, now you know how psycho i am, and how i could out-bitch you any day of the week. lol!

wow, i wish i had the self-control to deal with it by venting. i have a hideously fiesty side to me, and the most fiery temper.

I once punched a boy and broke his nose for telling me i had huge breasts. I didn't even know him. :/

I always call people out angrily if they piss me off. I wish I could be more sweet and kind about it.

poor you, sounds like you are in a rut. That and you have some crazy dude friends. But something will break - maybe your ex-alcoholic friend's leg, or he'll get frost bite trying to sunbathe in Chicago in February. I can relate to that feeling of everyone else being a bit unreal. I have so many colleagues who are 'going through the motions' that it's dispiriting. Anyhow this could make a whole blog entry - probably will one day. Keep the faith.

I feel you girl! We all have people and friends like that. When I'm in that situation... I just take a deep breathe and remember why they are my friends and that deep down, they're good people. Everyone has issues... it's just how we deal with them.

I love this post babe because I relate to it so well.

OMG i was about to blog bout it too! :D

yes dear, sometimes we all feel like being the only alien. i felt it too. and yes, its driving me nuts!

but just think positive, let they be the craps, ignore them and always remember dont be like them, thats the more important thing :)
if we feels like they're crap, then just let them be, just stick onto who we really are :)

take care hun.xoxo

You are entitled to vent every once in a while. And it's better to get things off your chest than to smother them deep down. And it's your blog so you can do whatever you want!
Thanks for the comment on my blog. I really appreciate the kind words. Come visit me again soon and I'll do the same and follow you.

oh man, I totally relate with you on people who honestly just do not have ONE clue about how out of touch they are with the world..it makes it seem like you're the one taking crazy pills, huh? However, usually when people irk me to the point of no return I just stop being friends with them which I think is actually kind of a bad quality to have. Impatience most certainly is not a virtue!

I can completely relate to you about everything in your post! My friends are kind of like that too but the touchy girl reminds me of myself because I used to be like that. I'm not too touchy but I'm quite sensitive on some things like I can't stand people who swears a lot or use vulguar language and guys who constantly stares at girls inappropriately. But I think I'm more mellow now and don't take things very seriously as much. And rude people in general..yeah, I know what you mean. They're everything these days, aren't they? Urrgh, I hate that nobody seems to have any manners now. Anyway, it's good to let your emotions out and speak whatever's on your mind :-) xoxoxoo

Aww, sorry you're feeling this way. But I agree: sometimes, people are just far too much to handle! But then you shouldn't forget that there are good/interesting people out there, especially strangers.

Sorry you're having such a hard time. I know a lot of what you're going through is to have so much crap happen at once, but hopefully it will pass very soon.

I do get annoyed at a lot of people too. My suggestion would be to just avoid the friends that bug you for a short while. I know I had to ignore a friend who kept moaning about her problems when in fact she could have easilly solved them, but she preferred to complain.

I can totally understand you. It really is frustrating to have people around you who clearly do not understand what it is like to live in the real world. I also have a friend who takes everything personally, and I think that they don't realise that not everything has to be about them. But I have a feeling that you are a strong person who will make it.

It's nice to hear about the inspiring comments, it really can be amazing how nice the people can be in blog-world. I love it.

I think I've been feeling the same way as you lately. I have a long list of friends/co-workers/strangers who I'm ready to strangle right now. I think I'm starting to scare people around the office...hahaha.

Finally. Don't apologize. This is your blog. You can bitch all you want goddammit! Hopefully it all made you feel better. That's all that's important.

I absolutely know the feeling. I have a friend who goes from guy to guy, pretty much has an unlimited bank account, and just is so up in the clouds that whenever I talk to her she will say, "You need to win the lottery then you'll be happy". She's a nut job. I always feel like Im in the real world nd she isn't. Strangers are the worst ones I think. Would it kill them to say please, thank you, or not look through you like your not there. I can't believe the weather thing with one of your friends. Good for you sending the map. Oh Jen your not alone. Big *hugs*

The nice thing about the friends I have is that they are definitely grounded in the real world with me and sometimes, in order to escape from our broke current situations, we'll just discuss things that don't matter much more often than the stuff facing us because it's hard. I wish I could divorce myself from reality sometimes-but I am my own reality so whether I like it or not, I'm stuck facing it. (Well sometimes. I hide the Sallie Mae bills in my mail pile and hope they disappear on their own.)

friends are hard sometimes, i ended up ending a few of what i thought were great relationships only to find out they weren't. i feel in our twenties it is super hard to preserve and find true friends. when you do hold on for dear life. i hope everything works out for you girl, off to read your previous post.
