So, today, I immersed myself in fabulousness to avoid drowning in my self-pity. I watched old Madonna music videos.

I recently purchased her entire box set of 1980s music videos/concerts/interviews.

Growing up, I had always been a huge Madonna fan. I was lucky enough to become obsessed with her in the early 90s when she was still fairly young and raising eyebrows with her raunchy misbehavior.

I'm not going to give you her full biography because I think she's famous enough where everybody knows it.

In a nutshell: Madonna was born in Michigan in 1958 and moved to NYC in 1977. Her goal was to be a dancer but a twist of fate led her to become one of the biggest pop stars in the world. She released her first album in 1983 (I actually could be wrong here, I'm writing this all from memory and I'm too lazy to check that specific year).

She changed the music world forever.

I love me some Britney and Lady Gaga, but let's face it. They will never come close to touching Madge.

I wish that I had been old enough during the 1980s to appreciate Madonna's legendary sense of style. I would have preferred wearing leather jackets and tutus in high school over the Britney Spears crop tops and flared glitter jeans I wore during the late 1990s.

Which is probably why I wear leather jackets and tutus when I'm out partying now, in my twenties. I think it's more acceptable to dress like Madonna at street parties rather than high schools these days, right?
Do you like Madonna's 1980s style?

She was a huge idol of mine as I was doing my exams back in the early 1980's. Holiday had just been released and being told you looked like her was the typical lame attempt by a spotty schoolboy to hit on you.
Desperately Seeking Susan was such a brilliant and stylish movie, Get Into The Groove is as fresh now as it was when I was a teenager! x
i only know her from the david letterman show. pretty good interviews.
thanks a lot for your comment!!! I follow you since time ago!!! jejeje

Madge definitely shaped the 80's world of fashion and her style is ever evolving.
I was still at school when that infamous SEX book came out ad was sealed in a nylon/plastic coating.
Total uproar back in those days!

I LOVE Madonna's style. Not only that, she had such a unique look (a la hair and makeup) that I always find appealing! :)
I wish I was old enough to experience the whole Madonna sensation, but I agree - no one could match her!
Madonna has phenomenal style! I think everyone should have a little 80's Madonna in their everyday wear :) rock it up a little :)

I definitelyl agree that the 80s Madonna look is more approrpriate for a twenty something than a tween! They can have Britney haha :)
I just watched Evita!
So,yes yes I do! I love wearing tutu's. Are you kidding me?! AHhaha. I swear, my friends and boyfriend just nervously smile when I pull on one of my tutu's and declare I'm "ready to go". But I don't care. They just don't understand.
Love her!!

hope Madonna can cheer you up, yep it's one of those weeks, tho.
I actually heard about her when Hung Up came out, I was 11 years old then. I have lately realized how huge star she is, but I like her older music more. I think she is going to the commercial way these days. Guess she won't be forgotten in many many decades. Such a legendary woman!

Mr. A is obsessed with Madonna. Not that he has, like, a girl crush on her, but anytime I profess my love for Britney or Gaga, he HAS to point out that Madonna did it first.
While I am not a fan of her music (or her -- hello, man hands), I can appreciate that she paved the way for today's artists and outrageousness.

Oh yeah I'm old enough to remember when everyone dressed in the Madonna-80s style...
I really liked her back then. You know...before she developed a British accent 50 years into her life...

MADONNA! Wow. No words really. She's just amazing. It's funny, when I was little I knew Madonna was a huge figure but I never realized how long she'd been around for, I thought she was a recent hit, so I was shocked when my parents knew who she was! bahaha. http://thearcenciel.blogspot.com/
i love madonna in general. not saying i love everything about her--but there's just denying the Madonna factor! i can't believe you have the entire box set--how awesome!
I was most obsessed with Madonna in the 80s, much to the chagrin of my mama. Haha!
The one and only and still the best at what she does. Although Gaga is coming pretty close these days!
I looooove Madonna. (Don't we all?) I remember making up dances to "Lucky Star" with my sister when we were kids. I like watching the video for Like a Virgin followed immediately by Weird Al's Like a Surgeon.
Why not! My perspective: dress however you feel :) If anyone doesn't like it, it's their problem!
I LOVE HERv !!

She has a raw, natural beauty. I'd like to see her without all the make up. Her earlier pictures are gorgeous.

Ha! I used to love Madonna in the 80's! yes I am that old and I'd try copy her style, just like all the little girls did with Britney.
She is a style icon and always will be.

A little fact for you: Madonna, once arriving in New York, caught a taxi and told the driver to drop her at Times Sqare. She knew no one and had no contacts. From that first step in Times Square she went on to rule pop music. Fact.
madonna is definitely a legend! :)
