What do YOU think happened to her? :) I'm always curious to know what your opinion is on these poor souls. You write in a way that leaves it up to us readers to decide. It really does seem like there was something more to this woman than we think. Especially because they wrote her off as schizophrenic.

But all mysteries aside, she was a stunning woman. Her face is so pretty. I can see why she was so popular.

Bloody days...something must have been amiss with her death, seems too crazy. Maybe someone came after her after all her episodes. And to be found schizophrenic as well, she must have been a piece of work to be around. That was marvellous! x

Gosh, this takes me back. Parveen Babi was like one of my first loves, along with Daisy Duke.

Hey, if you want a dose of totally charming early '80s Bollywood brilliance, check this out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6L4TvBFNoFE

Takes me back to when Indian women actually looked like real Indian women. Happy days.

Have they made a movie about her? That story is something!

Wow, how tragic and mysterious. It does make you wonder - were her wild accusations all part of her illness or was there a grain of truth in there somewhere?

Wow...I think she was murdered if she was accusing people of all those things. As I was reading I was like she sounds like she has total schizophrenia! I never knew how many tragic stories there were. Tragic but breathtakingly interesting!! =)

It is extremely unlikely Babi was schizophrenic. This rumor has been floating around for years (it's all over the internet), perpetuated by Bollywood celebrities and their associates, who are not - shall we say - the most honest, selfless, intelligent people around, let alone experts in psychiatry.

Most likely, Parveen's erratic mental state in later years was attributable to a delusional disorder, specifically psychosis due to substance abuse, similar to what happened to Syd Barrett of Pink Floyd. Much of this hedonistic bohemianism occurred when she hung out with the "Juhu Gang". She experimented with hallucinogens such as LSD in the 1970s, with men that exploited/used her in many unsavory ways, such as Mahesh Batt and Kabir Bedi. Moreover, she sought spiritual/psychological help from U.G. Krishnamurti, a purported guru, who was really a nihilistic charlatan.

Her full name was Parveen Wali Mohammad Khan Babi. She came from Muslim royalty, born Junagadh, in the state of Gujarat, in western India. Her education was schooling at Mount Carmel High School, and university at St. Xavier's College (both located in Ahmedabad). She converted to Christianity (Anglicanism) in 1996.
