Emmy Red Carpet Hits & Misses

I watched the Emmys last night. I was so pleased Mad Men won for Best Drama. It is my favorite television show.

The red carpet looks were interesting. There were so many beautiful gowns waltzing around next to pure crap.

I decided to share my loves and hates with you:

LOVES

Nina Dobrev

I am kind of obsessed with The Vampire Diaries. And I'm kind of obsessed with Nina. She's an absolute doll. This lipstick red Donna Karan gown epitomizes everything I love about old-school Hollywood: glamour, beauty, and power.

Aubrey Plaza

This is another golden-era gown which caught my eye. I'm not usually attracted to white gowns, because they tend to look a bit bridal, but this Juan Carlos Obando creation is flawless. It fits the Parks & Rec actress like a liquid glove as well.

Sarah Hyland

This red carpet dress is extra special because the 20-year-old helped design it, along with Project Runway diva, Christian Siriano. How cool is that?! The Modern Family actress has very classy taste. The Grecian-inspired gown is quite sexy without being trashy. It's refreshing to see a young actress who respects that line.

Cobie Smulders

This actress is from How I Met Your Mother. I don't watch that show or know this girl. But now I want to know more about her after seeing this stunning Rene Caovilla gown. That shade of aqua takes my breath away.

Sofia Vergara

If I could have one wish, it would be to exchange bodies with this gorgeous Modern Family actress. How stunning is she in this Vera Wang beauty?!

HATES
Gwyneth Paltrow
Waiting for someone to release her...out of that Emilio Pucci gown

Poor Gwynnie chose the wrong time to dress up in an old costume she bought at Christina Aguilera's garage sale. The Genie in a Bottle look is so 1999 and probably won't be back in style until our kids are old enough to make an ironic statement out of it.

Christina Hendricks
Where did she go?

In my opinion, Christina has a rockin' hot bod built for old-school glamorous gowns. And with that fiery red hair, she would be pure sex in a bold, sassy color. So why she chose this ill-fitting silver gown which washes her out is beyond me. She told reporters that this was the only dress she tried on that looked good on her. She is either blind or has lower self-esteem than Eeyore.

Katie "I don't give a shit anymore" Cruise

Mrs. Tom Cruise no longer cares about fashion anymore. She chose a boring, casual dress from the Calvin Klein sportswear department and added a belt. The dress, while a pretty shade of blue, looks handmade. From the waist up, Katie also looks like she should be doing pilates with other suburban moms in an upscale community center.

Julianna Margulies' last minute disaster

My parents LOVE this woman. They are the biggest fans of her show, The Good Wife. Unfortunately, there is nothing good about this Giorgio Armani Prive gown. I want to rip off all the obnoxious plastic bubbles on top of the lampshade she's wearing around her chest. On the red carpet, Julianna said she chose the dress the night before. I guess all the somewhat decent gowns were already taken...beggars can't be choosers?

Paz De La Huerta
Winner of the Love/Hate Award

Part-time actress, full-time hot mess Paz De La Huerta scored the most points for pissing me off.
On one hand, I love everything about the dress. That breathless shade of pink is divine and the overall design is glamorously lovely. It breaks my heart that Paz chose to ruin the dress with well, herself. She looks like a disheveled corpse doused in tanning spray. I seriously believe Pazzy must have woken up after a night of hard-core partying, threw on the dress and walked straight to the Kodak Theatre. The only thing missing was her family-sized bottle of Jack Daniels.

Which looks did you love and hate on the red carpet last night?

It just goes to show how little TV I watch, I've heard of hardly anyone.
Can't say I'm inspired, all very nice but they don't blow me away, although I absolutely love what Gwyneth Paltrow's wearing, sorry, but it fabulous. x

That's such a shame about Christina Hendricks.

She has so many women looking up to her. She could have taken so many more chances with her dress. Boo.

This is the first I've seen of the emmys so I'm very pleased you posted this. I wanted to do a post on the emmys but I don't know if I will get around to it now. Anyway, out of the ones you posted I like Cobie and Sarah Hyland the most. I've liked a few of Sarah Hyland's recent red carpet looks. I agree with you on all the worst dressed.

StyleIDnet said...

Yes, I agree with you on all of them, Nina Dobrev and Sofia Vergara are my favorites I admire Sara Hyland, she manages to be young and elegant so I am always wondering how she will look and has not disappointed me not even once.... What it is up with Paz De LA Huerta?? some of them need mirrors and honest friends.
Have a great Monday!

I agree with you in all haha..Damn I love Sofia Vergara she looked stunning!!! And Nina..wao! No wonder why she got all those vampires hot and bothered haha....I like the dress and the shoes from the girl of the Big Bang Theory..but I didn´t like them together..they were not working for me...but for me the biggest dress flop was Jane Lynch..and I love that woman to death but the dresses and the fabric were terrible..why do she keeps choosing that fabric it looks terrible on her! She looked beautiful and I think there are a lot of better options for her

Too funny. We agree on pretty much everything. I specifically remember being like "whaaaaat?" when I saw Gweneth Paltrow, Katie Holmes, and Julianna Margulies.

Loved Nina Dobrev too. Vampire Diaries just might be a guilty pleasure of mine. Although the first episode fell a little flat for me this year. I'll say no more, in case you Tivo'd and didn't watch it yet!

OMG, NINA. I saw this last night and totally lost my breath. Definitely the best dressed one there!
I love Sarah Hyland's dress, too, especially since she had a hand in designing it. How much of a dream come true would that be?! Plus, she is just hilarious on "Modern Family."
I have a girl crush on Sofia Vergara. No joke.

Since when did Gwyneth Paltrow turn into a belly dancer? She looks like shit, which makes me happy because I hate her.
Katie Holmes looks like she is wearing a backwards wife beater. I actually judge Calvin Klein for designing this monstrosity.
It's sad that Julianna won the Emmy last night because that meant she was photographed a LOT in that disgusting dress.

I don't know who Nina is, but that dress looks AMAZING on her! Sofia looks fab too, but what is up with her face? She must have gotten some work done because I could barely recognize her.

LOL@ what you said about Katie. Even her stance and facial expression reads "I don't give a shit." I'm sure it's hard to do much when you have kids, but it's not like she's a struggling mother or anything.

Great choices on your faves btw!

I love julianna margulies as well! I've been a fan of hers since I was 4 when I watched her on ER! (Yes mum let me watch ER at 4 because it was very similar to what I saw when I followed her to the hospital where she worked on weekends)

I love the colour of her dress, just hate the top of it!!

I super LOVE Nina Dobrev and The Vampire Diaries! I haven't seen any episode of the new season though. Work prevented me to do so. I think Nina and Ian Somerhalder are real life couples. What do you think? :)

Wow Paz is well described, what did she do to her poor skin?! Also - LOVE that turquoise dress. Exquisite.
