Some outfits and a little surprise

I know I've been saying this a lot lately, but I am so sorry for not posting in a while. The holiday weekend on top of my broken laptop has meant very little internet time for me. It sucks.

I promise to get back to each and every one of you very soon!

Lately the weather in my town has been mild. Since I haven't done an outfit post in a while, I thought I would share some of my favorite fall outfits I have worn in the past week.

It's funny. I fell in love with this dress when I saw it at Target six months ago. Sadly, I didn't have $30 to spare for it. Imagine my surprise a few weeks ago when I saw it was on sale...for $5! I thought the fall colors were just perfect for a sunny November day.

Target dress, Banana Republic cashmere cardigan, and Prada bag

I enlarged this next photo because I wanted to show off my favorite coat. When Harold's went out of business a year ago, I snatched this gem up at a ridiculous price. Every time I wear it, I feel like a princess. (Well, almost every time. My somber expression is because 20 minutes after this photo was taken I had to interview a couple whose daughter had been raped and murdered ten years beforehand. Her killer was recently found. Sometimes being a newspaper reporter can be a very emotional experience...)

princess coat
Harold's coat; Gap dress; pearl earrings and necklace from Kay Jewelers; Kate Spade bag; vintage shoes

This last outfit is the result of Black Friday! I got this lovely skirt from J.C. Penney for only THREE DOLLARS.

My Michelle skirt; Etro top; cardigan from Target; I totally forgot where I got the sandals.

Unfortunately, I think our heat wave is over. I have a feeling my future outfit posts are going to be filled with sweaters and ear muffs. Sigh.

And now to my surprise...

I am going to leave you with one of my favorite videos. It is from four years ago before Lady Gaga was famous and merely a music student at NYU. Lady Gaga, aka Stefani Germanotta, blew away the judges with two of her original compositions during the university's annual talent show. She came in third place. Ironically, one of the judges quipped "Norah Jones, look out!" As we all know the future Lady Gaga would not go on to make Norah Jones-type music at all.

Enjoy!

I love that Target dress... you looked so pretty in that outfit.

The white coat spells elegance. You look so sophisticated in the 2nd outift.

The 3rd outfit is so boho chic. Love it too.

I love your banana republic cardigan!!

Lady gaga has so much talent shes amazing

I can't believe that is Lady Gaga! I love her music but this just blows me away! I kind of wish she had stuck to this style though it is very Norah Jones-ish, I think Gagas voice is better.

I like all of these outfits. I think you look especially beautiful in the white coat. That is such a perfect coat, very stylish and elegant. I also liked the video. It hardly seems like the same person since she has a different name, her hair is so different and she sings a different style.

Love the first dress, and a proper bargin at $5!!!
And loving the 'Stefani Germanotta' video as well.

Jen, you look GREAT in that coat! And that Michelle skirt is gorgeous.

I feel for you, having to interview the couple who lost their daughter. But it's part of your life's experience and will ultimately help shape you as a person. I hope you can appreciate these tough parts of your job as much as the happy times. I believe this is happening for a reason, to make you stronger.

About that video? OMG, I'm in love with the first song (Captivated)! What an incredible voice she has. Nothing affects me more than a woman singing a ballad at the piano.

What a shame she's another cog in the pop machine now. She sounds better here and is FAR more attractively dressed than in the skimpy outfits she wears now. Hopefully she'll release an album with material like this.
Geez, for someone who's not crazy about Lady Gaga it seems I have a lot to say!

That coat is so classy. My favorite!

Jen, thanks so much for the beautiful words about my new family. You're too sweet!

Keep an eye on your e-mail today for something unrelated but equally as interesting. :)

I absolutely love your white coat - and that Penney's skirt! I don't blame the somber expression - being a newspaper reporter does sound like a difficult job. Especially when you're handling such sensitive stories and subjects.

I die at Lady Gaga! She is so amazingly talented. Loving this odl video! :)

Oh Hunny I'm sorry for giving you a headache!! =/ It was madness there.

I love love your outfits. I'll admit if there is something I want in a store in a size I'll put it on the back of rack so someone won't take it. lol. I love that skirt you got on black friday. It's so colorful & happy. Your shoes rule. =)

That's lady gaga???? Omg. I've never seen her smile while she's singning. I'm shocked!!!

Oh thank for the comments. Your definitely someone I want to meet someday. Your too coool dear!

I love all three outfits. I can't believe that dress was only $5. What a steal!

That must've been a difficult interview. It must be tough being a reporter sometimes.

Ela said...

Not sure anyone else could make a $5 dress look so good! What a steal it looks fabulous on you. And that coat is very princessy indeed! I just love it.

That is terrible. My heart breaks for them. I cannot even imagine how you got through that interview. I'm glad they had you and not some cold hearted reporter.

She is amazing. Makes you think what direction she may take in the future.

Oh yeah, and if I win the lottery I'm also buying either you or Melanie plane tickets so you can hang out together. I think you were sisters separated at birth. :)

Love the outfits. I always get so excited when I find outfits that are super cheap. It is like a treasure hunt looking through racks at the store to find the perfect piece. :)

BTW thank God they found the guy responsible for that girl's murder that is just horrible. I am going into forensic anthropology and it just baffles me to know that people can do that to another human. It is crazy.

Wow, I love the cardigan in the first picture. And this video actually made me listen all the way through - which considering I hate Lady Gaga is pretty damn impressive!

Gorgeous outfits and what a fab deal you got on some of them. $5 for the Target dress and $3 for the skirt?? Wow, and they look great on you! Love that coat as well... such a classi chic item.

Thanks for posting the Lady Gaga video by the way. I think so many people appreciate her for her crazy outfits and performances, but actually forget how she started her career as a songwriter and does her own compositions. This video does such a great job of showing people that she is a musician, not just an entertainer.

Two things. You do look like a princess on that coat. Two, it is interesting to see a very different Lady Gaga. That video proves that talent alone does not cut it. Gaga became famous, as her outfits and hair became extravagant, and her voice fabricated by auto-tune.
